Hato La Aurora is a private reserve in Colombian plains. This beautiful reserve offers different activities through which the traveller will search for wildlife – animals and birds living in freedom in natural habitat. Some of the animals you can encounter are chigüiros, white-tailed deer, caimans, anaconda, wild horses, herons, caravans, owlets, ibis and many more.
Day 1: We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 AM or airport (if your flight arrives early). Transfer by jeep 4×4 car to the reserve Hato La Aurora. Depending on the actual road conditions, the trip might take 4-5 hours. Most part of the road is unpaved and in rainy season has lots of mud. After lunch in the reserve we will head for our first activity. Night in the lodge in the reserve.
Day 2: Today you can expect full day of activities looking for the local wildlife. The activities offered by the reserve are: horseback riding, hiking, boat ride, safari, fishing, etc. The exact activity carried out in the reserve on each day depends on actual weather conditions, guide decisions and number of visitors in the reserve.
Rest and night in the lodge.
Day 3: Similar to day 2 you will again carry out different activities throughout the day. At night you will be able to enjoy a traditional music show called “Serenada Llanera”. Rest and night in the lodge.
Day 4: In the morning transfer by jeep 4×4 to Yopal. We will leave you in the hotel or at the airport.
- It is possible to visit the region during the whole year, still, bear in mind the following seasons: dray season from December to March and rainy season from April to November. The activities carried out in the nature reserve depend on the season. Also the road conditions get more difficult in rainy season, the road might have lots of mud and the driving time gets longer.
- In the nature reserve there are different types of accommodation (all of them are simple). There is the main house with 7 rooms each for 1 to 3 pax. This is the most confortable accommodation available. Furthermore the reserve offers the “Rustic House” with another 7 rooms each of them for 2 to 5 pax. These rooms are more spacious, but the house as such is more basic as the main house. In this tour we offer double rooms in any of the houses (depends on the availability)
- It is also possible to sleep in hammocks or camp (the camp is only possible in dry season). If you wish to do it, please contact us to give you a price discount
- The journey Yopal – Hato La Aurora you will do in a jeep which carries max 4 pax. It is absolutely necessary to use 4 wheel drive car especially in the rainy season
How to arrive to Yopal
- You can fly to Yopal with Avianca, Latam or Easy Fly airlines. There are early morning flights to be able to arrive at lunch time to the reserve.
- Recommended flight with Easy Fly departing at 5:31 am from Bogotá and arriving at 6:31am to Yopal. For your return, there is a flight at 6 pm from Yopal arriving at 7pm to Bogotá.
- If it is via Avianca we recommend departing at 6:03 am arriving at 07:13 to Yopal. For your return the flight departs at 6:45 pm and arrives at 7:52 pm in Bogotá.
- Another option is to take bus from Bogota. The drive might take from 8 to 10 hours depending on the traffic.
